The KwaZulu-Natal Midlands awaken gently. Mist lifts from the valleys, the first light catches the tips of the hills, and the farm starts to stir. A morning walk at Netherwood is a chance to breathe, to notice the small things, the dew on the grass, the call of a fish eagle in the distance, the quiet that settles over the dam before the rest of the world is awake.
Whether you are staying in one of our cottages or just passing through, we invite you to slow down. The paths wind through pastures and along the dam, with views stretching to the Drakensberg in the distance. Along the way you might meet a herd of Ankole cattle, a curious alpaca, or the resident black swan gliding across the water.
The recommended loop takes about forty minutes at an easy pace, longer if you stop to take photographs, and you almost certainly will. Bring a flask of coffee, a warm jacket, and good shoes for the dewy grass. By the time you return to the lodge, the kitchen will be open and breakfast will be on the way.
It is in these unhurried moments that the farm reveals its magic.
